Are you planning to make your Power of Attorney for Property? You should save this post for later!📌
Here are some tips to consider in selecting your attorney for your Power of Attorney for Property:
1) Ensure to discuss with whomever you decide to choose as your attorney.
This is important as the role of an attorney entails a lot of work in some situations. You want to be sure that the person you appoint is interested and willing to act in the position.
You also want to be sure that the person will be able to act when the time comes. It’s best not to select an elderly person if the person will not be physically capable of acting for you when the time comes.
2) Proximity of the attorney
It is preferable to select an attorney that is nearby, either within your city or province.
There is no sense in having an attorney who is not readily available to step in when you need him /her.
Having someone from out of town is not the best idea especially when an emergency arises, and the attorney is expected to step in immediately.
3) Financial knowledge of the attorney
It is advantageous to select a person who has at least some basic knowledge of finances as your attorney for property / finances.
This would provide some peace of mind that the person handling your finances understands and knows what to do with respect to handling funds, investments and acting in your best interest.
